Year 4

Mrs Dowling (maternity leave)

Year 4 Teacher

I am Mrs Dowling. I have joined Woodlands Academy in 2013, and have enjoyed my time teaching children across both key stage one and key stage two. I completed my teacher training in South Wales, following a degree in English Literature, and then moved over to Bristol to teach at Woodlands. My accent is definitely far less Welsh now than it was over a decade ago!
Reading has always been my passion; it’s my favourite area to teach and I love the excitement a new book in a classroom brings. It’s so rewarding to see a story come to life for children and how it can take children to other worlds. The creative opportunities that a good book gives are endless – through drama and role play, art, descriptive writing – and it reaches out to children of all abilities, so that they are able to succeed in their own learning journeys. I am currently the Music subject lead within our school.
To unwind, I love spending time with my wonderful family and friends, reading, colouring (I love my Harry Potter colouring book!) and travelling back to the quiet village in the valleys where I grew up.
